Reading comprehension strategies
1. Read and highlight/box the Title and any Illustrations. Use these two text features to write down a prediction about what the passage will be about.
2. Outline the passage. Highlight/box any other text features, such as bold words, footnotes, italics, captions, glossaries, etc. Also, predict and record what the genre of the passage will be. Then the student can read the passage.
3. Answer the questions before looking at the answer choices. Mark the answer inside the passage with the questions number.
4. Dash/slash the trash. Eliminate the any silly answer choices.
5. Select the best that matches the answer you marked in the text.
