Looking for creative ways to get ready for the EOG's!!!
Crime Scene Kahoot!
Want to get your students excited about EOG's? Follow these steps:
(Optional:) Print and wear an EOG police badge. Take an ESL sherriff with you.
1. Have the classroom teacher play police sirens as you enter the room. Tell the students that someone is guilty of not studying for their EOG test and now they must provide an alibi. Rope off the smart board with Crime Scene tape.
2. Have a copy of the passage for each student in your "forensics kit."(Passages available for download below.) "Forensics kit" can include flashlight, iPads, copies of the passage, police tape, etc. in it. Distribute one copy to each student. Use a flashlight to put different students in the "spotlight" to read one paragraph aloud through the whole passage. Make up silly accusations as you call each one out to read. If they do a nice job reading, you can "acquit" them of their crime.
3. Return to your forensics kit, and pass out iPads for students to share, or let them use their own devices. (I tell the class the day before to bring their devices.) Now, go to one of these Kahoot pages to access the passages:
3rd grade Claudia https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/e1814882-e0dc-4241-b1e4-8781b44abe1f
4th grade Crash Coogan https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/c5b77c8f-6b9f-4b62-a253-9886034b8997
Immigration to Ellis Island: https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/49740bbc-e674-41c7-8795-501f4cf5f86d
4. Students will type kahoot.it in the omnibar of the browser on their device. Then they will enter the game pin that is displayed on their teacher's computer projected on the SmartBoard in the front. Next, the students will type in their username. I recommend that you mandate that they type in their real name or some semblance of their name. That way you can export the results at the end and know who answered what!
5. Enjoy the game. Top teams will be "acquitted" of the crime and can earn a reward of the teacher's choosing.
